Procalcitonin

Procalcitonin (PCT) is a well-established biomarker for the assessment of systemic bacterial infections and inflammatory responses.
Under normal physiological conditions, PCT is present in the circulation at very low concentrations; however,
its levels may increase significantly during bacterial infection,
particularly in severe systemic infections and sepsis.

Measurement of PCT can support the evaluation of patients with suspected bacterial infection,
assessment of infection severity, and monitoring of treatment response.
Due to its dynamic changes during the course of infection,
PCT can provide valuable information alongside clinical findings and other laboratory parameters.
